I thought of another value that Myspace provides to society. In addition to making people computer literate, it has made them into *somewhat* skilled photographers. At least more skilled than they would have been had they not been taking mirror-aided self-portraits every weekend.
The legions of girls who get together with their friends and scrunch their faces up for the camera have also become adept at some very basic photo editing techniques. They've figured out how to add text ("BFFs 4eva") to pictures, as well as messing with the color saturation and hue.
In addition to making people web-savvy, Myspace has turned a generation of narcissists into amateur photographers.
